7 Questions You Might Be Afraid to Ask About Men’s Lingerie.

Are you a man who's been considering trying out lingerie? Men's lingerie is growing in popularity, but many men are still nervous about committing to it.

You don't have to be scared of trying new undergarments, but this anxiety is normal. We're here to answer a few questions that you may be too afraid to ask out loud so you can feel more comfortable buying your new lingerie.

Keep reading to learn more.

1. Is Lingerie Too Feminine?

Many men who have an interest in trying out lingerie are worried about it being too feminine. It's normal to concern yourself with your masculinity (though we always suggest exploring what that means to you), but why do you think that lingerie is inherently feminine?

It's true that most lingerie is marketed to women, but does that mean that only women can wear it? There are men in women's lingerie, of course, but there's also lingerie for men.

Society perceives lingerie as feminine because, historically speaking, that's what's been popular. If something makes you feel sexy and confident in your masculinity, it's not feminine. If you're a man wearing clothes that people may think are for women, they're men's clothes because you're a man who is wearing them.

2. Will Other People Find It Attractive?

Some men may worry that lingerie isn't attractive on them. Is this really true?

As with anything else, attraction varies. Everyone has different ideas of what is or isn't attractive. Some people don't even find lingerie attractive on women.

With that in mind, many people find men wearing lingerie to be sexy. Were it more normalized, the number of people that fit into this category would likely increase. For the most part, people will find you sexy if you feel sexy in what you're wearing.

In other words, find the lingerie that makes you feel comfortable and confident. That confidence will make you more attractive to potential partners regardless of their gender.

3. Can I Wear It for Myself?

So what if you have no interest in wearing lingerie for a partner? Is it vain or inappropriate to wear it for yourself?

Many people enjoy wearing lingerie because it makes them feel good even when no one else sees it. You can wear something sexy underneath your clothes when you're out and about and knowing that you're hiding that "secret" might make you feel better about yourself.

You can wear lingerie for photos or even just to look at yourself in the mirror. There's no need to display it if that doesn't make you feel comfortable and it's not shameful.

4. Will People Make Assumptions About My Sexuality or Gender?

Similar to the "attraction" question, the answer to this question will vary. Will people make assumptions about you based on your choice of underwear?

In short: sometimes. There are people out there who have preconceived notions of sex and sexuality that are incompatible with men wearing lingerie, but this isn't a "you" problem. It's a "them" problem and it simply means that these people aren't a good fit for your social groups or partnerships.

As we mentioned before, there is nothing inherently feminine about lingerie. It doesn't make you less of a man or indicate your gender identity. It doesn't say anything about whether you're straight, gay, or anywhere in between. It's clothing.

Some people may assume that men who wear lingerie are in some way "deviants" but rest assured that this is an outdated and quickly diminishing belief. More and more people are growing to accept that people of all genders can wear lingerie if it makes them feel good about their bodies.

So yes, some misguided people will make assumptions about you, but these aren't people that you need to have in your life.

5. Will People See It Through My Clothing?

If you're someone who wants to wear lingerie underneath your day clothes before a night out (or for yourself), you might worry that people will somehow become aware of what you're wearing. This self-consciousness is normal, but don't worry. Your lingerie is no more visible than the underwear that you've already been wearing.

In other words, as long as you're wearing appropriate clothing, there's no way that anyone will know about what you're hiding.

6. Is My Body Right for Men's Lingerie?

If you've already looked at men's lingerie online, you may notice that most lingerie models have a certain body type. Is men's lingerie right for you if you don't fit that aesthetic?

Lingerie models (and all fashion models) tend to fit specific body types for display and marketing purposes, but lingerie is for every type of body. You don't have to have chiseled abs to rock your favorite lingerie pieces.

When you find the right lingerie for your body, you'll feel confident.

7. Is Men's Lingerie Too Frilly?

While lingerie isn't feminine per se, it can still be frilly and this may make some men feel shy or uncomfortable. Is all men's lingerie like this?

Not at all! While there's men's lace lingerie on the market, there are also options to suit every style. There are solid pieces, pieces that resemble leather, and even mesh.

If you're not ready to dive right into lace, no problem. Choose something that suits your personality. Try several styles until you find the right fit and aesthetic for you.
